Meet Cristina
Cristina is a bilingual Latina therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor - Associate (LPC-A) under the supervision of Laura Cintron, LPC-S. Since she was young, she was always the “counselor” in her group of friends; helping others has always been part of her essence. She is honest, generous, and compassionate.
Her path toward becoming a therapist began very early. At the age of nine, when her family was going through a difficult time, she asked for help, and her mother took her to see a child psychologist. She remembers that experience with affection. This event is significant in her life as it marks the beginning of her love and admiration for the therapeutic profession.
She was born in Ecuador and immigrated to the United States at the age of 14. Once in the United States, an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher gave her one of the most valuable pieces of advice she’s ever received: “Choose a career you’d do for free, because that’s how you’ll know you’re working to live, not living to work.” That’s when she remembered that experience at age nine and felt a powerful calling to dedicate herself to the field of mental health. During her master’s program, she worked as a case manager at a domestic violence agency, where she also completed her practicum and internship hours. There, Cristina deepened her understanding of trauma and the impact it has on the brain and nervous system when people is in survival mode. This experience changed the way she sees life, humans, and herself.
Cristina has done her own inner work along the way, which allows her to offer her clients a genuine, empathetic, and non-judgmental presence. Her goal in every session is for the person in front of her to feel welcomed and safe, in a space where they can open up to self-acceptance. She is passionate about the work she does and integrates trauma-informed interventions such as:
EMDR
EMDR Combine with IFS,
Sandtray Therapy
Parts Work
These techniques can be applied both in person and virtually. You are invited to explore them!
Currently, Cristina works with adults and teens (16+) through virtual sessions only, but she is also developing ways to offer her services in person and to children and teens (16-) in the future. She has experience working with people of all ages and has no preference. She is passionate about connecting with clients at every stage of life.
Having personally experienced the process of immigrating to a new country, Cristina deeply understands adaptation, migration grief, and cultural bilingualism. She speaks both English and Spanish fluently and takes pride in being able to support her clients in the language in which they feel most comfortable.
In addition, Cristina facilitates parent workshops with a focus on positive discipline, and she remains committed to ongoing learning in order to offer the best of herself, both as a professional and as a human.
When she’s not in session, Cristina enjoys spending time with her two four legged companions, Emmet and Roben, who are an essential part of her daily life (though they don’t join sessions because they sometimes forget to stay quiet!). She loves spending time with her husband, her family, and her “chosen family” of friends she has built in this new country. She enjoys sports, true crime and mystery documentaries, and she loves dancing as a way to release her nervous system. She walks daily, protects her sleep (which is non-negotiable), and starts her day with the motivation of a good breakfast.
Cristina welcomes you with warmth, professionalism, and deep empathy. She firmly believes that we all deserve a space where we can heal, grow, and feel fully accepted.
